The best part of being a Charleston family photographer is watching families grow and change through the years. It's the biggest compliment to travel someone's life journey with them while doing what you love!

For example, I met baby Jameson's parents during their engagement shoot! Then I got to be their wedding photographer at the South Carolina Aquarium. A few years later, they introduced me to my now-husband (thanks for that one, y'all!), became my neighbors, and had me do some branding photography for their brewery, Indigo Reef Brewing Company.

And, about a year ago, I got to do baby Jameson's newborn photos!

This little dude is quite the ham, so when Christopher and Nicole mentioned doing a smash cake for his first birthday, I had a feeling it was going to be an epic photoshoot.

You never quite know what a toddler will do with a smash cake, honestly. I've seen babies daintily nibble at the icing, ignore the cake completely, or attack the smash cake with wild abandon. No matter what happens, it always makes for some fun and memorable photos, however!

Little did I know Jameson is a cake-smashing expert, and we ended with blue icing... absolutely... everywhere. He was literally covered, from his eyebrows to his tiny toes.

The cleanup probably took longer than the actual photoshoot, but I'm so glad we got to make a mess and watch Jameson let loose. Kids truly find so much joy in the little things in life - there's a lesson for all of us there!

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY, JAMESON! We can't wait to watch the person you'll become.
