Event Photography: Private Party at The Oyster Shed at Leon’s
Being a photographer means you get to be a fly on the wall at some pretty fabulous events, but probably my favorite type of Charleston event photography is the small and intimate gatherings among family. Right before heading home for Christmas, I got to photograph a private party at Leon’s Oyster Shed, and this warm, laid-back event was the perfect start to my holidays.
If you haven’t been to Leon’s Oyster Shop, I’ll assume you’re new in town or live on Daniel Island because you’re missing out on some really tasty eats and a fun vibe. What some people don’t realize, however, is that behind Leon’s Oyster Shop you’ll find a gorgeous private event space called The Oyster Shed.
The Oyster Shed at Leon’s is housed in a small renovated historic home, combining Lowcountry elegance with the laid-back charm of Leon’s. Exposed beams, high ceilings, and a beautiful patio make it the perfect space for a smaller private event. Not to mention the food is amazing!
The Boyette family all gathered at Leon’s as everyone made it in town for a relaxing cocktail hour on the patio. Leon’s Oyster Shop served up some really delicious passed appetizers, but the oyster roast was the star of the show. Does it get much more “Charleston” than a holiday oyster roast? It was really fun to watch the oysters roasting on an open fire right in front of you before being dished out on the table for shucking, still piping hot. And of course, sweet baby James loved to watch the fire!
After some time to relax and catch up, we did some more casual family portraits to capture the evening before the family moved into the inside event space in the historic home for a full meal. Leon’s Oyster Shop was decked out with a Christmas tree, lights, and tinsel, and the whole experience was so lovely I’ve been talking to my family about doing the same sort of event next Christmas. What a great way to bring everyone together for the start of the holidays without the added stress of cooking… or more importantly, the cleaning!
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! I’m looking forward to more beautiful events and catching up on all the best of last year’s posts… someday!
Happy New Year!
