The Northern Spy: Food Photography in Durham, NC

If you like cider, you’ve probably heard of Stem Ciders. Hey, I’ll bet even if you don’t like cider, Stem Ciders is probably your one exception, am I right?!

The beloved Colorado-based craft cidery just opened their doors in Durham, North Carolina at a cozy little delight named The Northern Spy. And guess what? I got to travel up there from Charleston to photograph their VIP reception and do a branding session the next day… which was the day before they opened! I love a challenge and a quick turnaround, and I love getting to play with my food even more.

So today on the blog, I’m sharing some of my favorite food and beverage photography from my branding session with The Northern Spy. We photographed everything from cider in its simple glory to fabulously messy cider floats and some really delicious cuisine along the way (if that mac and cheese gratin doesn’t make your mouth water, check for a pulse).

This was a fun, very fast-paced shoot - the staff was incredibly accommodating, especially considering they were getting ready for their official opening while I was climbing on tables, moving furniture, and generally making a mess with cider and food. A huge thank you to the team at The Northern Spy and Mise En Place PR for helping me pull all of this imagery off in a mere three hours. You all are invaluable!

And if you live in the Durham area or are planning a visit soon, bump a meal or drink at The Northern Spy to the top of your list. They also boast a truly impressive retail section, which cider lovers are sure to drool over.

You’ll find The Northern Spy at 2812 Erwin Road, Durham, North Carolina.
