Charleston Family and Newborn Session: The Klingemanns and Baby Jack

I just have so much to say about this shoot, it might actually take up another post after this one! We’ll see! I am forever behind on keeping the Internet up to speed on what I’m actually doing. I digress.

Firstly, I met Joy back when she decided to hire me for her wedding back in 2010. I just loved her then and I love her now, we have since done oh-how-many family portraits between her and husband Patrick’s families. They both are the sweetest and most patient people, so it makes sense that they’ve also grown into amazing parents.

I first photographed Parker, their oldest child and only girl, when she was teeny tiny and just sitting up by herself! Fast-forward to today and Parker is a full-blown young lady (and I’m old enough to call anyone a “young lady”, what is happening to me?) and her youngest brother Jack just made his arrival!

It was so fun to photograph the whole family together with their pup Snoopy, but I have to say that with Joy’s kids, it is ALWAAAAYS the outtakes that have me coming back again and again to look at the final take. They are just so stinkin’ cute.

And hey, those candid moments are actually the best part of the family portrait. I know everyone chases after that one perfect frame-worthy photography where everyone is looking straight ahead and no one is being goofy but you know what? In real life? Your kids are probably a little goofy. And they’re the more beautiful for it. Because childhood is pretty goofy, and it’s also pretty darn special and pretty darn short.

So you’re going to see a lot of outtakes if you scroll to the bottom, but it’s because they’re also the best takes.
