Kiawah Island Family Portrait Session: The Egan Family

When most people hear the name “Kiawah Island”, they pretty much think “beach”. And while it’s true that Kiawah does have some amazing beaches that make for great family portraits, Kiawah offers so much more than just sand and surf.

When the Egans reached out to me about doing a family session, they wanted to do something other than the traditional beach pictures, so I suggested we meet at Freshfield’s Village. If you’ve never been to Freshfield’s, it is the “town” just behind the roundabout on your way to either Kiawah Island or Seabrook Island, and it is adorable.

There’s an open green area with oversized astro turf sofas and arm chairs that is used for events, music, and farmer’s markets, but there are also a number of trendy luxury wear and vacation wear boutiques, toy stores, restaurants, and even a wine bar that lets you taste 48 different wines by the ounce - which is just as dangerous as it sounds, trust me. My fiance and I went out there the other evening and had a blast!

We all met on the green for some family photos and candids before making our way over to the fountain and then the bright yellow vintage pumps outside The Station restaurant. We had promised the girls ice cream at Vincent’s Pharmacy after the shoot, and no one will hold you to an ice-cream related promise like a child under the age of ten.

I’m so happy with this one, it was so fun to incorporate some of the beautiful and playful elements of Freshfield’s into our session!
