Branding Photography: The Faces of Chapman Knoll

It’s nearly impossible to tell the story of Chapman Knoll without starting with the sweet faces at Chapman Knoll.

Chapman Knoll is a glorious slice of bed and breakfast heaven located in on the Blue Ridge Mountains in Woolwine, Virginia. This working farm turned inn is the love child of Rodger and Kim, retirees with a passion for the farm life and hospitality.

This lovely couple purchased the white 1890-something farmhouse on the hill to live out their dream, building two guest apartments for short term rentals. Don’t be fooled, though, these rentals are more luxury living than farm field hand! I pretty much tried to move in permanently. But more on the spaces in an upcoming post.

As I said, the faces at Chapman Knoll are what truly sets this place apart. Kim and Rodger’s smiling faces are the first you’ll likely meet during your stay at The Nests at Chapman Knoll, but the personalities of their animals will steal your heart. From their ever-on-duty little Border Collie Piglet to sweet, protective mama goat Stormy and the very suspicious cow Mae Mobley (you’ll know her picture when you come to it, trust me), this place is packed with personality.

You may have brought paperbacks and board games with you for your stay, but you’ll probably find yourself out watching the chicken dramas play out over your cup of morning coffee or snapping pictures of the baby goats romping around their pasture. These little guys were trying to jump off the walls of the barn while I was there, almost like teenage skateboarders!

I could go on about each and every soul living on the farm, but I’d rather let the images tell the story. Of course, with any branding shoot, the photographic work ranged from interiors and still lifes to portraits, but it just didn’t feel right to start rolling out the story of Chapman Knoll without starting with the faces of Chapman Knoll.

I hope you enjoy.
