Charleston Conference Photography: Eastern Vascular Society Annual Meeting
When you're a Charleston conference photographer, you get to meet the most interesting people at the top of their field in the most diverse and interesting of areas.
The Eastern Vascular Society (EVS) Conference at the Charleston Place Hotel illustrated this in spades. Attendees enjoyed lectures from some of the medical community's most brilliant minds, as well as breakout sessions, lunches, simulations, and cutting-edge poster sessions.
Some of the highlights of this multi-day hybrid conference included an inspiring speech from Olympian Jim Craig, who helped lead the US Olympic Hockey Team to a gold medal in the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" game against the Soviet Union. It was this epic game that went on to inspire the movie Miracle, in fact!
My favorite parts, speaking as their Charleston event photographer, were the vascular simulation lab and the Roaring Twenties-themed President's Reception at the Riviera Theater.
The vascular simulation lab featured all sorts of photo opportunities of the surgeons working through procedures on silicone models, but I honestly had no idea they would run water through the models to verify the success of the sutures until water came shooting out of an artificial vein at me. I'm not going to lie; I screamed and dove behind a curtain. Still, it was fascinating to get a peek behind the surgical gown at what medical professionals do... without being on the table!
The President's Reception kicked off with a dramatic red carpet welcome that ended with an entertainer wearing a metal "dress" that held dozens of glasses of champagne. Guests grabbed boas and fedoras before making their way through the glamorously restored art deco space to the grand ballroom. Everyone relaxed with delicious food, craft beverage, a DJ, and several flash dance performances from a local dance troupe.
It was such a pleasure to work with Well Assembled Meetings and EVS as their Charleston conference photographer! Thank you again for having me.
