Charleston Event Photography: Charleston Stage Gala
There’s no business like show business and the Charleston Stage Annual Gala, A Red Carpet Affair, drove that point home in spades.
The historic Dock Street Theatre, which serves as the home of the Charleston Stage company, was decked out in festive finery for the gala. Colorful uplighting, gorgeous floral arrangements by Tiger Lily Florist, and a red carpet step-and-repeat greeted guests and patrons as they came in from the cold, wintery November night.
Guests enjoyed delicious bites from Cru Catering (those tiny tomato pies are the stuff dreams are made of) during the cocktail hour before heading into the theatre for the evening’s performance.
After some opening remarks by founder and producing artistic director Julian Wiles and associate artistic director and director of education Marybeth Clark, the Charleston Stage company treated the audience to selected songs from the 2019 season and the children’s ensemble even joined the resident actors for several numbers. Highlights included but were certainly not limited to songs from Mama Mia!, The Little Mermaid, and City of Angels. Then auctioneer Tom Crawford led the giving portion of the evening before a quick set change transformed the stage into a glamorous dining area.
Chandeliers and a starry night sky set the scene above the elaborate tablescapes, which included Rewined candles as party favors. Everyone enjoyed a decadent three-course meal with wine pairings before heading back out into the blustery evening.
