Charleston Event Photography: Gatsby Gala by Blue Steel Promotions
The ‘20s are back - literally - so what better way to ring in the decade than with a roaring ’20 themed gala at the South Carolina Aquarium?! Blue Steel Promotions, a Charleston-based event company, did just that by throwing one heck of a party last night.
They welcomed a large crowd with a light dancer and a giant 20s photo op on the tented patio by the Charleston harbor, but there was even more entertainment inside the aquarium. A DJ cranked out beats for the Great Tank dance floor (any backdrop with live sharks has my attention, y’all) while a band played in the front entrance.
A very agile martini-dancer enthralled partygoers and the liquor flowed. Guests enjoyed a variety of hot and cold appetizer stations as they made their way around the aquarium. The VIP section offered up tasty bites and chic lounges in a private area, and guests explored the tanks and exhibits between snacks and drinks (the jellyfish were my favorite). Several brave partiers even jumped in the hurricane simulator!
The outfits were a sight to behold, ranging from fringed flapper styles, sequined dresses, and dapper ‘20s menswear to one full length men’s coat. By the end of the night, the aquarium floor was littered with stray fringe, wayward boa feathers, and sequins galore.
The night was a blur of entertainment and revelry, but personally, my favorite part was the flash mob. One of the last surprises of the night, a troupe of dancers seemingly came out of nowhere and performed an awesome, mesmerizing routine.
