Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art: Southbound Brunch at City Gallery

The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art hosted a brunch reception and artist talks as part of the Southbound: Photographs of and About the New South exhibit at the City Gallery in downtown Charleston on Saturday, October 20, 2018 and it was a beautiful morning for artists and attendees alike.

Southbound is an extensive photography project co-curated by Mark Sloan, director and chief curator of the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, and Mark Long, professor of political science, both of whom are on the faculty of the College of Charleston.

Butcher & Bee - one of my favorite Charleston restaurants - provided a delicious spread and Mayor Tecklenberg played some tunes on the piano while everyone mingled and took in the works.

This was a beautiful event to photograph and be a fly on the wall. The photographers who spoke were incredibly inspiring and if you missed the opening reception or brunch reception, you still should absolutely make a point to drop by City Gallery or the Halsey to enjoy the work.

You’ll also find a list of upcoming events related to Southbound on the Halsey Institute website here.
